SUMMARY:Revolutionary War Service
DESCRIPTION:The Revolutionary War service is an effort to re-enact a worship service on the Western Pennsylvania frontier that was led by Presbyterian missionaries to the frontier during the Revolutionary War. Themes that were addressed during the American Revolution regarding natural rights to liberty\, the tyranny of government coercion upon its people\, and the appropriate role of Christians in such social conflicts are addressed using Biblical passages that were used during that era to address the issues of the day. The service is held outdoors on the Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church’s property\, with the order for worship\, music\, and communion service replicating the kind of service held by Presbyterian missionaries on the Pennsylvania frontier. Dr. Lolla will be preaching on the topic “Roots of Independence” from Psalm 7:12. The public is invited to bring a sack lunch for a time of fellowship following the service. The service begins at 10 a.m and will now be indoors due to expected rain.

SUMMARY:Blessing of the Pets
DESCRIPTION:The Blessing of the Pets service on July 9 is held before the Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church in a party tent on the front lawn.  Worshipers are encouraged to bring their pets with them to worship\, on a leash\, as well as lawn chairs.  During the service each pet will be blessed by the minister\, with a message that elevates God’s gift of animals as a blessing for us to give thanks.  Dr.. Lolla will be preaching on “Bless the Beasts and the Children\,” from Isaiah 11:6.  The service begins at 10 a.m.  The public is encouraged to bring their pets who are socialized to accept others.

SUMMARY:Choir Camp for Kids age 4-12
DESCRIPTION:Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church is holding a Choir Camp for Kids\, ages 4 through 12\,  during the week of July 10-14 at the church on 1622 James Street. Sessions will run in the  mornings from 9:00 a.m. to noon. \nLed by esteemed chior directorand vocalist Lynn DeFalco\, the children will learn spirited and uplfting songs with a performance for family and friends on Friday at noon. Participants may also choose to sing  in the following Sunday’s service at Hillcrest and experience choir in a real church setting. \nA highlight of camp week will be visits from trained and experienced musicians who will demonstrate their instruments and allow the children to discover how they can be used to accompany various songs.  Rounding out the daily sessions will be experiential Bible lessons\, games\, activities\, and snack time. \nThe camp program is made possible by a  grant from Pittsburgh Presbytery and by volunteer staff support from Monroeville’s Bethel Presbyterian Church. As a result\, no fee is required. \nCall the church at 412 824-5600 to submit your child’s name and age and give your information for mailings and emails on registration. If necessary\, leave a message with your name and number\, and you will receive a return call as soon as possible. \nChoir Camp for Kids staff looks forward to seeing your child and family this summer and to hearing some new songs ringing through the rafters at Hillcrest.  If you have seen the sanctuary\, you know it will take a full and strong choir to accomplish such a feat.  Please join us and be part of a mighty group!
