Scottish Heritage Sunday Service and Reception
May 5 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
The 11:00 am community service will feature the story of Scottish Presbyterian history, followed by a reception.
Bagpiper Matt Peterson, Scottish dancer Katie Janeiro, and more highlight Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church’s Scottish Heritage Day celebration, May 5th! The 11 a.m. worship service will remember the 1560 origins of the Presbyterian Church in Scotland. Shortbread, scones, Scottish baked goods and tea will be served following the service as Matt Peterson performs traditional Scottish selections, two which Katie Janeiro will dance. The purpose of Scottish Heritage Sunday is to interpret the historic contribution of Scottish Presbyterianism to American life. Through Scottish Heritage Sunday, Presbyterians are reacquainted with the story of their church’s founding, the confession of faith that initiated the Presbyterian Church, the contribution of the Presbyterian Church to American education, democracy, and First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The historic sacrifice of Scots Presbyterians whose faith in Jesus Christ initiated a new concept of society that has changed civilization. Scottish Heritage Sunday is both a congregation celebration of its founding faith principles and witness, as well as a community-wide celebration of Presbyterian culture, its story, and the importance of its religious contribution to current American life.
Invite your neighbors and friends from other churches to share in this celebration of the Holy Spirit’s work through the Scottish Reformation!
